Do we need the one day or the three day course?

Look at what can actually go wrong on your premises.

Employers must make adequate first aid provision under the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981, and adequate is decided by your own assessment of the hazards (HSE).

No course is named in law. Where the plausible emergency is a machine, a fall, a vehicle or a knife, that points to First Aid at Work.

Where it is a collapse, a choke or a diabetic episode, the one day Emergency First Aid at Work usually covers it.

Ofsted registered childcare sits outside this. Those settings need paediatric first aid.

What does the three day First Aid at Work course include?

Three days of classroom and practical work, and a certificate valid for three years.

It covers everything on the one day syllabus, then adds fractures, spinal and head injuries, chest injuries, burns, poisoning and the management of diabetes, epilepsy, asthma and anaphylaxis.

Assessment is continuous, closing with a 26 question multiple choice paper.

This is the course food production sites, engineering workshops, textile units and the logistics operators off the M1 and A47 tend to book.

Holding FAW already? The two day Requalification renews it, but only while the certificate is still in date. Once it lapses you sit the full three days again.

Is the one day EFAW course enough for an office or shop?

For most low risk premises, yes. One day, three year certificate, and a 15 question paper at the end.

You practise CPR and defibrillator use, choking, bleeding, shock and how to handle someone unresponsive.

Offices, retail units, salons, letting agents, cafés and small charities make up most of the one day groups here.

It is also the usual choice for a business sending a single named first aider rather than a team.

Which course do Leicester nurseries and schools need?

Blended Paediatric First Aid. It is built around Annex A of the Early Years Foundation Stage statutory framework, which is what Ofsted holds registered early years providers to (DfE).

The course runs for twelve hours. Around six hours are completed online beforehand, at your own pace, followed by a six hour practical day at the venue.

Content covers infant and child CPR, choking, anaphylaxis and auto injector use, asthma, seizures, febrile convulsions and recognising a child who is seriously unwell.

Nursery practitioners, childminders, teaching assistants, nannies and parents all attend.

What fire and manual handling training runs at this venue?

Fire Safety Awareness

Half a day. Prevention, raising the alarm, evacuation, and extinguisher choice, for general staff.

Fire Marshal

A full day, for the people running sweeps and roll calls, and supporting the responsible person's duties under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.

Manual Handling

For warehousing, food production, care and retail teams. Practical, with your own load types, which you tell us in advance.

When will certificates be issued?

FAIB accredited certificates are usually issued within 48 hours of passing. Marking is done before you leave.

Practical skills are signed off as you demonstrate them, and the multiple choice paper is marked on the day. Ofqual regulated and Mental Health First Aid certificates go through Qualsafe Awards and Nuco.

We aim for the same 48 hours, though the paperwork on the day can shift it.

Accreditation

FAIB accreditation applies as standard. An Ofqual regulated version, carrying the Level 3 award title, can be arranged on request; the syllabus and duration remain the same.

Workplace content is designed to meet HSE guidance and supports your duty under the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981.

Paediatric content is aligned with EYFS Annex A. Resuscitation content follows the 2025 Resuscitation Council UK guidelines.

Will you deliver at our own site?

Yes, from six delegates upwards.

The trainer brings manikins, training defibrillators, dressings and paperwork, so all you provide is a room with clear floor space.
