Forestry +F First Aid Training for Tree Surgeons UK

Tree surgeons, arborists and forestry workers face hazards most trades never see. Standard workplace first aid covers injuries and accidents at your workplace. It isn't built for a catastrophic bleed at the top of a rope, or a crush injury deep in a woodland.

The HSE doesn't set a specific first aid certificate for forestry work. It does require every employer and self employed worker to carry out a first aid needs assessment that reflects the real risks of the job.

For tree surgery, that assessment has to account for remote sites, chainsaw injuries, weather, lone working and the time it takes emergency services to reach a casualty. Forestry +F is designed around exactly those risks.

Can Forestry +F Training Happen on Site?

Yes. We deliver in house training at your site across the UK.

Onsite training means:

  • Your team trains together in one go
  • No travel time or lost day rates
  • Practical scenarios shaped around your working environment
  • Less disruption to the job diary

In house Forestry +F carries an additional £100 + VAT on top of the EFAW price. That covers the extra time, resources and administration.

How Often Should Tree Surgeons Refresh Their Training?

Most first aid certificates are valid for three years (Health and Safety Executive). The HSE strongly recommends an annual refresher to keep skills sharp.

Insurance providers, landowners and Forestry Commission contracts often ask for proof of current certification. Keep certificates where your team and your clients can find them.

Talk to us about refresher training for your crew.

Is Forestry +F a legal requirement for tree surgeons?

No. The HSE doesn't require a specific forestry first aid certificate. It requires a first aid needs assessment based on the real risks of the work (Health and Safety Executive).

Many tree surgeons still take +F because the Forestry Commission expects it for core operations on its land, and many insurers and landowners treat it as the industry standard (Forestry England, 2019).

What is the Forestry +F course?

Forestry +F is a specialist add on to Emergency First Aid at Work. It covers catastrophic bleeds, crush injuries, Lyme disease, adder snake bites, and the effects of heat and cold (Forestry England, 2019).

Our version also covers chest injuries, spinal injuries and amputations.
