What to Bring to Your First Aid Training Course: The Complete Checklist

Complete Checklist for First Aid Training

You don’t need to bring much to your first aid training course. Just arrive with comfortable clothing, flat shoes, and any personal medication you might need. Everything else, training equipment, manikins, AED trainers, and learning materials, is provided by the training provider.

Preparing for your first aid course

Whether you’re attending an Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) course or a full First Aid at Work (FAW) course, knowing what to bring can help you feel relaxed and confident on the day. First aid training is practical, hands on, and designed for everyone, so you don’t need prior knowledge or specialist equipment. A little preparation goes a long way in making your training day smooth and stress free.

What to bring to your first aid training course

Here’s a clear checklist to help you arrive fully prepared.

Essentials to bring:

  • Comfortable clothing- You’ll be practising CPR, recovery position, and casualty care, so wear clothes that allow you to move freely.
  • Flat, comfortable shoes- Trainers or similar footwear are ideal, as you may be kneeling or moving around.
  • Medication- Bring any medication you may need during the day.
  • Water bottle (not essential, but personal preference)- Bring your own bottled water to stay hydrated during the course. While bottled water is not provided, most venues will have access to tap water.
  • Smartphone or tablet- Some courses use online assessments. If there are technical issues or you don’t bring a device, a paper copy will be provided.
  • Lunch- Lunch is not provided, so bring your own or use a nearby cafe or shop. Tea and coffee will be available on site.

All our first aid courses provide the training equipment, manikins, AED trainers, and learning materials you’ll need.

Optional but useful items

These aren’t required, but some learners like to bring:

  • Notebook and pen- For personal notes or reminders.
  • Light jumper or hoodie- Training rooms can vary in temperature.
  • Snacks- Especially useful for longer courses.

What you don’t need to bring

Many learners worry they’ll need specialist items, but you don’t. You do not need:

  • Prior first aid knowledge
  • A first aid kit
  • Medical textbooks
  • Special uniforms or PPE

Everything required for your first aid course is supplied.

What should I wear to first aid training?

Wear casual, comfortable clothing that allows free movement. You may kneel on the floor or practise techniques with other learners.

Avoid:

  • Tight or restrictive clothing
  • High heels or open toe shoes
  • Anything you’d be uncomfortable moving in

Comfort helps you learn better and practise with confidence.

Food, lunch, and breaks on first aid courses

  • Lunch is not provided, so bring your own or visit a nearby cafe or shop
  • Tea, coffee, and snacks will be available on site
  • Scheduled breaks are included throughout the day

Always check your joining instructions, particularly for multi day FAW courses.
